Key Employee or Internal Successor?
Internal Successors typically prefer remaining as key employees rather than purchasing a Senior Attorney’s law practice.
The reason relates to the following “Then & Now” analysis:
Then: Senior Attorney’s often hire younger lawyers to “do the work” for clients whom Senior Attorneys originate.
Now: When Senior Attorneys later ask key employee lawyers to purchase their practices, they typically say “no thanks” because of their preference to remain as key employees rather than business owners.
As Senior Attorney Match’s Jeremy E. Poock, Esq. states: “[I]nternal Successors do not want to purchase the practice because they were never meant to purchase the practice.”
